At IU, what is the ArcGIS Academic Lab Program?

The ArcGIS Academic Lab Program provides ArcGIS for Desktop software at special rates for instructional computing labs on all Indiana University campuses. This program enables greater student access to advanced geographic information software. Note that research labs do not qualify for this program.

To participate in the ArcGIS Academic Lab Program, an instructional computing lab must purchase a minimum of 5 seats at $500 per year. All computers in this program must use the UITS-managed Esri License Service. Each additional seat is $100 with a maximum of 40 seats total. This program includes access to:

  • ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced with all Extensions
  • Esri Maps and Data
  • Esri Tutorials

The agreement allows the use of ArcGIS seats in only one designated instructional Windows computing cluster. A department may purchase Academic Lab Program seats for more than one cluster, but the minimum purchase per cluster is 5 seats.

Each computing cluster must designate one GIS primary contact to whom UITS will provide technical support. The class instructor or designated primary contact is expected to provide student assistance. For more, see At IU, where can I get help with GIS or remote sensing?

IU departments interested in ArcGIS for Server, the ArcGIS Academic Lab Program, or the Esri Unlimited Program should email UITS GIS Services for information about purchasing licenses.
