ARCHIVED: About the Esri Unlimited Program at IU

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

In recognition of the large financial commitment some Indiana University departments make to acquire Esri GIS software, UITS has created a pricing option allowing departments to expand their use of Esri software in teaching and research while incurring no additional expense. This program applies to all IU campuses. For Esri software restrictions, see About IU's educational site license with Esri.

The Esri Unlimited Program grants a department access to unlimited licenses for ArcGIS for Desktop and companion client software such as ArcPad and data. ArcGIS for Server is not included in this program. To qualify for the Unlimited Program, customers must meet the following criteria:

  • The department pays an annual maintenance fee of $5,500. The annual licenses are effective from August 1 through July 31 of the following year.
  • Faculty may install ArcGIS software on personally owned computers. Staff may install this software only on IU-owned computers.
  • All requests for software, data, license files, and technical support must come directly from departmental primary GIS contacts.
  • To receive prompt technical assistance, departments should use the latest available software versions with updates and patches installed.
  • UITS will not support departments running their own unlimited license services. UITS encourages departments to use the Central License Service, which offers redundant Unix systems managed by UITS Research Technologies staff.

IU departments interested in ArcGIS for Server may complete the GIS Help form for information about requesting licenses. Licenses available include ArcGIS Server, Notebooks Advanced Server, Image Server, GeoEvent Server, GeoAnalytics Server, and Knowledge Server.
