At IU, where can I find Esri maps and data?
The Esri Data collection contains many types of map data at many scales of geography. The data are useful for general purpose basemaps and for more specific uses. For each geographic scale included, the significant basemap layers are boundaries, cities, rivers, and roads. Where possible, demographic data are provided for states, counties, and their equivalents. Vector datasets include the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico, and the world. Image and elevation data are available for North America and the world.
Esri now offers an ArcGIS Online group, Esri Data & Maps, which provides access to data layers from the Esri Data and Maps DVD set included with ArcGIS for Desktop software. Students and faculty may also access Business Analyst Online and Community Analyst. To begin using, contact GIS.
Through Indiana University's license agreement with Esri, IU students, faculty, and staff can access GIS datasets for educational use. Datasets include census and market data, and are updated annually. You can find the datasets at Box at IU; log in with your IU username and passphrase. For information about how you may use the data, read the documentation included with the files.
