ARCHIVED: Using Windows, how do I use WebDAV to download files from my Oncourse Resources or Drop Box?
WebDAV (Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning) allows you to download large files (over 200 MB), multiple files, or folders of files from your site more easily.
Note: WebDAV is not available for use with Guest accounts.
On this page:
Windows 10 and 8.x
To set up a WebDAV connection in Windows 10 or 8.x:
- Windows 10: Press
Win-e
and select from the left-side menu.Windows 8.x: Using the Search interface in tile mode, locate and select the
tile. - In the quick menu at the top of the screen, click . (In Windows 10, you may need to click the tab to display the quick menu.)
- In the "Folder" field, enter a URL that points to the destination Resources or Drop Box tool.
- To connect to a site's Resources, enter the following URL,
replacing
siteID
with the appropriate siteID:https://oncourse.iu.edu/dav/siteID/
- To connect to your personal Resources (in My
Workspace), enter one of the following URLs (both will work),
replacing
username
with your IU username:https://oncourse.iu.edu/dav/user/username
https://oncourse.iu.edu/dav/~username
- To connect to a site's Drop Box, enter the following URL, replacing
siteID
with the appropriate siteID:https://oncourse.iu.edu/dav/group-user/siteID/
- Alternatively, to find the URL you need, go to the site and tool you want to connect to and click . The URL for that tool appears in the instructions.
Note: For instructions on finding your siteID, see ARCHIVED: Determining your site's siteID.
- To connect to a site's Resources, enter the following URL,
replacing
- Select the box, and then click .
- When prompted, enter your IU credentials.
You should now be able to drag files and folders from your site to your computer.
Windows 7
To connect to WebDAV in Windows 7, first turn on the WebClient service, and then create the WebDAV connection.
Enabling the WebClient service
- From the menu, choose , then , then , and then .
- Scroll down to , set the service to , and then click .
- If the service is not already running, click .
- Click to close the Control Panel.
Creating a WebDAV connection
- From the menu, right-click , and select .
- Enter a URL that points to the destination Resources or Drop Box tool.
- To connect to a site's Resources, enter the following URL,
replacing
siteID
with the appropriate siteID:https://oncourse.iu.edu/dav/siteID/
- To connect to your personal Resources (in My
Workspace), enter one of the following URLs (both will work),
replacing

with your IU username:https://oncourse.iu.edu/dav/user/username

- To connect to a site's Drop Box, enter the following URL, replacing

- To connect to a site's Resources, enter the following URL,

- A new network location will appear. Double-click the item to open it.
- When prompted, enter your IU credentials.
You should now be able to drag and drop files and folders from your site to your computer.
If you have difficulty dragging and dropping, right-click the file or folder you want to copy, and choose
. Then right-click the directory you want to put it in, and choose .
