Before you begin

  • If you are off campus, you will need to establish a VPN connection before mapping a network drive.
  • If you are on campus and connecting via wireless, make sure to use IU Secure when mapping a network drive.
  • If you are on campus and connecting via a wired port at the tech desk, you must register your computer at IU Messaging Services before proceeding.

Windows

To map a network drive at IUSB using Windows:

  1. From the Start menu, right-click Computer or My Computer.
  2. Select Map Network Drive....
  3. From the "Drive:" drop-down menu, choose the appropriate drive letter (e.g., O:, W:, H:, or S:).
  4. For the appropriate drive, enter the folder path; replace username or your_department with your username or department name:
    • O: drive (faculty and staff shared):
        \\sb-inft-fs2.ads.iu.edu\home\username
      
    • W: drive (campus shared):
        \\sb-inft-fs1.ads.iu.edu\shared
      
    • H: drive (departmental share):
        \\sb-inft-fs1.ads.iu.edu\your_department
      
    • S: drive (student shared):
        \\sb-inft-fs1.ads.iu.edu\stushared
      
  5. If you want the drive to connect every time you log in, select Reconnect at logon.
  6. Click Finish.
  7. When prompted, enter your IU username and passphrase, adding ads.iu.edu\ to the beginning of your username, for example:
      ads.iu.edu\username
    

Alternatively, you can access network storage directly:

  1. Open My Computer.
  2. In the "Address" field, enter any of the folder paths listed in number 4 above.
Note:
If you want to connect to the H: drive, but don't know the name of your departmental folder, in the "Address" field, enter \\sb-inft-fs1.ads.iu.edu , and then choose your departmental folder from the list.

macOS

To map a network drive at IUSB using macOS:

  1. Click Go and select Connect to Server....
  2. In the "Server Address:" field, type the appropriate path; replace your_department with your department name:
    • O: drive (faculty and staff shared):
        smb://sb-inft-fs2.ads.iu.edu/home
      
    • W: drive (campus shared):
        smb://sb-inft-fs1.ads.iu.edu/shared
      
    • H: drive (departmental share):
        smb://sb-inft-fs1.ads.iu.edu/your_department
      
    • S: drive (student shared):
        smb://sb-inft-fs1.ads.iu.edu/stushared
      
  3. Click Connect.
