Request a private IP address

To request a private IP address, email dns-admin@iu.edu. Include the following in your request:

  • Device type (for example, server, workstation, or printer)
  • Campus
  • Fully qualified domain name
  • Primary username (this can be a departmental or group username)
  • Local UITS support person username
  • Current IP address (if your device doesn't have an IP address, provide its location instead, including the building name, room number, data jack number, and campus, so administrators know to which subnet the device should belong)

All private IP addresses are routable university-wide (that is, private IP addresses that are local to IU Bloomington or IU Indianapolis are not available).

Note:
In addition to using a private IP address, to make your device completely unreachable from the internet, make sure IPv6 (if supported) is disabled on the device.
