The spam quarantine service analyzes all mail delivered to Indiana University Exchange accounts. Any spam messages you receive are quarantined for five days in a Junk E-Mail folder in your account, and are then deleted automatically.

The Cyrus mail servers at Indiana University use a filtering language called Sieve, which you can use to augment the IU spam quarantine service. The web interface for building Sieves is called Ingo, and is accessible via IU Webmail. You can use Ingo to sort incoming mail and send it to different folders based on rules you set.

Creating new rules

To access Ingo and set up rules for filtering your email:

  1. Log into Webmail.
  2. Click Filters.
  3. Below the "Existing Rules" list, click New Rule.
  4. Use the drop-down lists and checkboxes to set up your rule. Click the lifesaver-shaped icons for help.

In the "Rule Name:" field, you can give the rule a unique name, which is useful if you plan to create more than one rule.

  5. When you're finished, click Save.
  6. When you're finished creating rules, click Inbox to return to your mail.

Working with existing rules

To change, delete, copy, sort, or disable and re-enable existing rules:

  1. Log into Webmail.
  2. Click Filters.
  3. Under "Existing Rules", find the rule you would like to change, and then choose from the following options:
    • Change the rule: Click the edit icon (it looks like a pencil and paper).
    • Delete the rule: Click the trashcan-shaped icon.
    • Copy the rule: To copy a rule to use as the basis for a new rule, click the copy icon (it looks like two pieces of paper).
    • Disable a rule: Click the rule's green checkmark, changing it to a red X.
    • Re-enable a rule: Click the rule's red X, changing it to a green checkmark.
  4. Rules are processed in order, from top to bottom; to change the order, use the up and down arrows on the right.
  5. When you're finished working with rules, click Inbox to return to your mail.
