Get started with Microsoft Tasks

On this page:

Features

Use Microsoft Tasks (formerly Microsoft Planner) to create new workflow plans, organize and assign tasks, share files, chat about what you're working on, and receive progress updates from other Indiana University students, faculty, and staff.

Eligibility

If you are eligible to use Microsoft 365 at IU, you are eligible to use this application and its related suite of products.

Software

This application is included in Microsoft 365, and you can access it from Microsoft 365 at IU .

Microsoft Tasks is also integrated into Microsoft Teams at IU.

For mobile clients, Tasks applications are available via the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

Create a plan

Note:
UITS does not recommend creating a plan outside of Microsoft Teams at IU.

In Microsoft Teams, the Tasks app is called "Tasks by Planner and To Do". To create a plan from within Microsoft Teams:

  1. In your team channel, select Add a tab +.
  2. Search for Tasks by Planner and To Do (might simply be called "Tasks").
  3. Select the app. The Tasks wizard should start.
Note:
You can't add a Tasks tab to a private channel in Microsoft Teams.

Learn the basics

To learn how to perform common tasks in Microsoft Tasks, see the Microsoft Planner home page.

Troubleshooting, help, and feedback

If you have trouble with any application, sign out of Microsoft 365 and completely close your browser or mobile app, and then restart it. You can also switch to a different browser to see if that resolves the issue.
