ARCHIVED: In Mozilla Thunderbird, how do I archive my mail?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

Thunderbird does not have a built-in feature for archiving your mail. However, mozillaZine describes a variety of options for manually archiving your mail, including using the Buttons! extensions, using the MboxImport extension, and using MozBackup.

Another way to archive messages manually is to use an advanced search to find all messages in various folders and subfolders that meet your search criteria (e.g., older than 90 days), and then move those messages to an archive folder.

For information and instructions on all of these options, see mozillaZine's Archiving your e-mail.
