Export the Canvas gradebook to Excel

Canvas lets you export grades from the gradebook as a CSV file and upload changes to the gradebook from a CSV file. To open these files in Microsoft Excel and save them correctly, they must include a byte-order mark and use comma-separated fields.

If you have trouble working with Canvas CSV exports, manually change the settings:

1. In Canvas, click Account.
2. From the pop-up menu, choose Settings.
3. Scroll down to "Feature Options" and select Include Byte-Order Mark in Gradebook Exports.
4. Unselect the following:
   • Use semicolons to separate fields in Gradebook Exports
   • Autodetect field separators in Gradebook Exports

All newly created CSV exports will now use appropriate settings.
