Configure ArcGIS for Desktop to use the UITS-managed Esri License Service

Note:
Esri has announced that ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap and its associated suite of tools, including ArcGlobe, etc.) will no longer be available through the Education Site License beginning July 1, 2024. This means that all current ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) users will need to transition to ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Online by June 30, 2024. For further details, see ArcMap Retirement in Education Programs.

UITS manages Esri license servers for ArcGIS for Desktop licensing support. Use the ArcGIS Desktop Administrator application to configure your Desktop installation to use the UITS license servers:

Note:
To run the software using a license managed by the Central License Service, you must be either connected to an IU network on campus, or on the IU VPN if off campus.
  1. From the Start menu, select ArcGIS. Right-click ArcGIS Administrator and choose Run as administrator.
  2. In the "ArcGIS Administrator" window, select the Desktop folder.
  3. Click Change under "License Manager" and enter esri1.uits.indiana.edu;esri2.uits.indiana.edu. Click OK.
  4. To confirm that ArcGIS can see the license service, select the Availability tab. You should see many license features listed. Available licenses will vary depending on how many computers have checked out ArcGIS for Desktop license features.
  5. To close the Desktop Administrator, click OK.
