Resetting your XSEDE-wide password

Resetting a known password

If you remember your XSEDE-wide password and want only to change it, log into the XSEDE User Portal, and on the My XSEDE tab, click Change Password. The form automatically inserts your username in the "Username" field. To change your password, type your current password in the "Current Portal Password" field, and then type your new password in the "New Portal Password" and "Retype New Portal Password" fields (see the password requirements below). Then, click Change Portal Password.

Resetting a forgotten password

If you have forgotten your Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) password for logging into the XSEDE User Portal, you can reset it using the Forgot Password form. This process requires that you know your XSEDE User Portal username and the email address associated with your XSEDE account. Additionally, once you begin, you must complete the process within 15 minutes. If you do not finish within 15 minutes, the system will force you to restart. See the password requirements below.

Note: For security reasons, the Forgot Password form will log your IP address. To avoid having your IP address logged, contact the XSEDE Help Desk to request a manual reset of your XSEDE User Portal password. For manual reset requests, include the fax number of your allocation's Principal Investigator (PI); the Help Desk will fax your new password to the PI. For XSEDE staff accounts (unlike project/allocation accounts), the Help Desk can fax the new password directly to the account owner.

XSEDE-wide password requirements

When you reset your XSEDE-wide password, your new password must contain a minimum of eight characters and at least three of the following character classes:

  • Lowercase letters
  • Uppercase letters
  • Numbers
  • Punctuation marks

Resetting your NCSA Kerberos password

Resetting a forgotten password

If you've forgotten your National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) Kerberos password (used for logging into the XSEDE ticket system), contact the XSEDE Help Desk. Once you have your new password, you must reset it within seven days, or it will expire.

Resetting a known password

To change the Kerberos password you use to log into the XSEDE ticket system, use the NCSA's secure Kerberos password changing form.

After you authenticate, the form automatically inserts your username in the "Username" field. To change your password, type your current password in the "Old Password" field, and then type your new password in the "New Password" and "New Password (again)" fields (see the password requirements below). Then, click Change Password.

Note: The system keeps a history of your passwords and will not let you reuse old passwords.

NCSA password requirements

NCSA passwords must contain a minimum of eight characters from at least three different classes:

  • Lowercase letters
  • Uppercase letters
  • Numbers
  • Punctuation marks
  • All other characters
