ARCHIVED: On XSEDE digital services at TACC, can I recover files I accidentally lost?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

On Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) digital services hosted by Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), it may be possible to recover lost data, depending on which file system the data were stored:

  • Files on $HOME are tape archived regularly, and should be available for recovery. Files removed from archive also can be recovered.
  • Files that were lost on the high-speed parallel file systems, such as $WORK, are not backed up and cannot be recovered.

To recover lost files from $HOME or archive, contact the XSEDE Help Desk with a file retrieval request specifying:

  • The date the files were lost
  • Which files to recover
  • The (former) location of the files
  • The username of the file owner
