The following table provides a brief summary and comparison of podcasting services at Indiana University:

What is it?
Apple Corporation's proprietary service through agreement with IU
The IU Podcast Portal is the central gateway for podcasts at IU. Podcasts featured on the podcast portal feature content related to the university's mission of research and creative activity, teaching and learning, and civic engagement.

For course content:

Public content is available via the iTunes Store.

Who may publish content?
Instructors may publish course content through the iTunes U Course Manager (requires a valid Apple ID).
IU faculty and staff with an account on the IU central web server (Webserve) may submit and store podcasts. Members of the IU community may also register podcasts that are stored elsewhere.
What audiences are assumed?

IU students, faculty, and staff, and some external audiences visiting iTunes U (e.g., potential students, alumni, and members of the public who are seeking IU podcasts)

Content published to IU's public iTunes U site is searchable worldwide via the iTunes Store.

What content is expected?
Educational content, primarily, with some public information and university marketing content
Any content of potential interest to the university community and external audiences
What are the features and benefits?
iPod users will experience easy syncing through the familiar iTunes interface. Authentication may be required to access content, if desired by the publisher.
IU's podcast gateway enables content access to anyone on the web. Users may search for content by campus, and sort by date of publication and frequency of subscription.
May students publish content?
Course owners can designate contributors to publish content in iTunes U courses; see iTunes U Help.
Only official student groups having a Webserve account may publish.
What content formats are supported?
MP3, MP4 (audio and video only)

What storage limits apply? 500 GB total for IU Unlimited capacity
