ARCHIVED: How do I report an XSEDE security incident?

To report a security-related event on the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE), use the Security Incident form in the XSEDE User Portal or email the XSEDE Help Desk. You may also reach the Help Desk at any hour by phone (866-907-2383).

If you are reporting a security emergency or known compromise, Help Desk staff will determine which XSEDE sites are affected and alert emergency contacts at those sites. They will also prepare an incident report and forward it to the Security Operations Group. Notification of the incident is then communicated to all XSEDE emergency contacts, either by the site Principal Investigators (PIs) or the Help Desk. If the incident affects usage (i.e., causes an outage), a public statement is prepared and communicated to users through the Help Desk.

If your incident is not an emergency or known compromise, Help Desk staff will route the incident to the Security Operations Group, which will investigate it, and notify other XSEDE sites, if necessary.

In either case, the Security Operations Group reviews security-related tickets weekly to make sure they are resolved promptly.
