Important:
Oncourse is retired. For details, see ARCHIVED: About the Oncourse retirement.

As a member of a portfolio site, you may be asked to give someone formative feedback (i.e., a review before the work is submitted for final evaluation) on all or part of a matrix. Whether you are providing peer review (e.g., student-to-student) or instructor/advisor-to-student review, the basic procedure is the same.

Note:
To complete these procedures, you must be assigned a role having the necessary permissions. If you're not sure what your role is, see the "Role" column in the Roster tool. For permissions, see ARCHIVED: What can I do in read-only Oncourse?

To provide feedback in a matrix:

  1. If you received email inviting you to provide feedback, click the link in the email message to go to the appropriate matrix cell. You will be asked to log into Oncourse if you are not already logged in.

You can also navigate to the matrix cell as follows:

    1. Log into Oncourse, and go to the site in which the matrix is located. From the menubar, click Matrices.
    2. Click the title of the matrix for which you are providing feedback.
    3. From the drop-down menu at the top of the page, select the name of the person for whom you will be providing feedback. Verify that you are viewing the correct participant's matrix before proceeding; immediately above the username drop-down menu, the name of the participant should appear in a message like 'View "Matrix Title" [READ ONLY]: Firstname Lastname'.
    4. Click the appropriate cell.
  2. Click the names of any forms, items, and reflections to open and review them.
  3. To provide general feedback, in the "Feedback" area, click Add; this opens the Feedback form. To offer feedback on a specific item in the "Items" area, next to the item, click Add Feedback; this opens the Feedback form for that item.
  4. Fill in the form according to any instructions given. You may type your feedback directly into the text box or copy and paste text from another document.

Note: Pasting text into the rich-text editor should preserve most formatting, but some types of formatting may need to be added manually in the editor after pasting. You can also use the Paste from Word icon to paste from a Microsoft Word document, although this may not preserve every type of formatting. For details, see ARCHIVED: Pasting from Microsoft Word.

  5. When you are finished adding feedback, click Save Changes to return to the matrix cell.

Note: The portfolio environment does not provide any indication that feedback has been added to a matrix cell. You can email participants to let them know that you have added feedback to a matrix.
