Overview

The SAV team migrated the II Self-Service portal to the latest version, which brings numerous advantages. In addition to better performance and more flexibility in the back-end processing, there were updates to the user interface in terms of both look/style as well as organizational layout. Some of the internal enhancements also provide a better foundation, allowing for new functionality to be rolled out more quickly.

What changes

There was a significant update to the user interface.

When you log into the new version, you will no longer see the Deployments tab; this was replaced with a Resources tab that has a section for the Deployments view, as well as a new Virtual Machines view.

Virtual Machines view

In the Virtual Machines view, you can interact with your virtual machines (VMs) directly instead of having to enter each deployment by selecting the options menu ('More' or 'Options' menu icon) next to the VM's name.

The rest of the interface should be familiar to administrators who used the older version. The new version also allows the SAV team to speed up loading on the second day action forms, which should improve user experience while working on VMs.

Potential points of confusion

While the Virtual Machines view gives a faster way to directly manage VMs in II, it does not include the history of actions taken on a VM. The Deployments view is nearly identical to the older version and contains the history of what happened on a VM; however, for existing VMs, the history is only from the time of migration onwards.
