Overview
Follow the steps below to uninstall Kurzweil 3000 from your Windows computer. You will need to remove the Kurzweil 3000 application, the Acapela voices, and any Read the Web browser extensions.
Kurzweil 3000 application
To uninstall Kurzweil 3000:
- Close the Kurzweil 3000 application.
- Close any other applications you have open on your computer.
- Press the
Win
key, typeapps
, and then select . - From the list, select , and then click .
- A prompt will appear telling you that the app will be uninstalled. Click .
- A "User Account Control" window will ask if you want to allow the app to make changes to the device. Click .
- If a prompt appears telling you that applications are open, click . The uninstaller will close them automatically for you.
- Several black windows will pop up and then disappear; this is normal. Once the uninstaller is finished, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Select to restart and finish removing Kurzweil 3000.
Acapela voices
To uninstall Acapela voices from your computer:
- Press the
Win
key, typeapps
, and then select . - In the "Apps & Features" window, select one of the Acapela items (for example, ).
- Select .
- A prompt will appear saying, "This app and related info will be uninstalled". Select .
- In the "User Account Control" window that asks if you want to allow the app to make changes to the device, select
Once the uninstaller finishes, the voices will disappear from the list in the "Apps & Features" window.

- Repeat steps 2 through 5 to remove any remaining Acapela items (for example, ).
Read the Web extension
Follow the appropriate steps below to remove the Read the Web extension from your Chrome or Firefox web browser.
Chrome
- Open Chrome.
- At the upper right, select the , which is a button with three small dots in a vertical line:
- From the menu, select , and then .
- Find the "Read the Web" extension and, to the right, click .
- In the confirmation prompt that appears, click .
- Close Chrome.
Firefox
- Open Firefox.
- To open the Firefox "Add-ons Manager", press
Ctrl-Shift-A
. - In the menu on the left, click .
- Find the "Read the Web" extension and select .
- Close Firefox.
