Overview

Follow the steps below to uninstall Kurzweil 3000 from your Windows computer. You will need to remove the Kurzweil 3000 application, the Acapela voices, and any Read the Web browser extensions.

Kurzweil 3000 application

To uninstall Kurzweil 3000:

  1. Close the Kurzweil 3000 application.
  2. Close any other applications you have open on your computer.
  3. Press the Win key, type apps, and then select Apps & Features.
  4. From the list, select Kurzweil 3000 v16, and then click Uninstall.
  5. A prompt will appear telling you that the app will be uninstalled. Click Uninstall.
  6. A "User Account Control" window will ask if you want to allow the app to make changes to the device. Click Yes.
  7. If a prompt appears telling you that applications are open, click OK. The uninstaller will close them automatically for you.
  8. Several black windows will pop up and then disappear; this is normal. Once the uninstaller is finished, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Select Yes to restart and finish removing Kurzweil 3000.

Acapela voices

To uninstall Acapela voices from your computer:

  1. Press the Win key, type apps, and then select Apps & Features.
  2. In the "Apps & Features" window, select one of the Acapela items (for example, Acapela English Non-US Voices).
  3. Select Uninstall.
  4. A prompt will appear saying, "This app and related info will be uninstalled". Select uninstall.
  5. In the "User Account Control" window that asks if you want to allow the app to make changes to the device, select Yes.

    Once the uninstaller finishes, the voices will disappear from the list in the "Apps & Features" window.

  6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 to remove any remaining Acapela items (for example, North and South American Voices).

Read the Web extension

Follow the appropriate steps below to remove the Read the Web extension from your Chrome or Firefox web browser.

Chrome

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. At the upper right, select the Customize and Control Menu, which is a button with three small dots in a vertical line:

  3. From the menu, select More Tools, and then Extensions.
  4. Find the "Read the Web" extension and, to the right, click Remove.
  5. In the confirmation prompt that appears, click Remove.
  6. Close Chrome.

Firefox

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. To open the Firefox "Add-ons Manager", press Ctrl-Shift-A.
  3. In the menu on the left, click Extensions.
  4. Find the "Read the Web" extension and select Remove.
  5. Close Firefox.
