Primary UITS contact: Collin Gayde

Completed: March 4, 2008

Description: The p690 node, Libra00, was retired in February 2008. Large-memory serial applications and shared-memory multiprocessor applications were migrated to IBM p575 hardware.

Libra00 was installed at IUPUI in 2001 utilizing funds from the INGEN grant. Cost of maintenance and the purchase of replacement hardware required us to retire the system.

The Central Life Sciences Database (CLSD) moved from Libra00 to Libra45 in this process.

Milestones and status:

  • December 7, 2007: DB2 instance for CLSD on Libra00 backed up and exported
  • December 24, 2007: DB2 instance for CLSD created and all data imported to new database on Libra45
  • January 4, 2008: Scripts for CLSD migrated to Libra45
  • January 8, 2008: Libra00 is configured to no longer run SMP jobs. Five p575 nodes online for running SMP jobs.
  • January 31. 2008: Users migrate to using CLSD on Libra45
  • February 2008: Libra00 retired from service

Comment process: Send email to High Performance Systems.

Benefits: More SMP compute slots will be available to users on Libra. CLSD will run on newer and more robust hardware.

Primary client: IU faculty, staff, and students with accounts on Libra

Client impact: Users will no longer be able to log into libra00.uits.iu.edu; they will need to use the alias libra.uits.iu.edu, directing them to a round-robin of login nodes.

Users will need to change their applications to point at the new CLSD instance.
