ARCHIVED: How do I reset my password for XSEDE digital services at TACC?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

Note: If your Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) allocation includes time or space on a Texas Advance Computing Center (TACC) digital service, you must activate your TACC account before you can use the XSEDE User Portal or SSH to access that service. TACC will email you a welcome message that includes your TACC User Portal username and a link to the TACC User Portal and instructions for activating your account. Once you've activated your account and created a TACC User Portal password, you can use your TACC credentials to authenticate via SSH to your accounts on TACC digital services. You'll also be able to access those accounts (with your XSEDE-wide login) from the XSEDE User Portal.

Following are instructions for resetting your TACC User Portal password, which allows you to use SSH to access the TACC digital services on which you have accounts. For information about resetting XSEDE passwords, see ARCHIVED: Resetting your XSEDE passwords. For information about passphrases and passwords at Indiana University, see Your IU passphrase.

  1. If you know your TACC password, and would like to reset it:
    • On the Password Reset page, under "Username", enter your TACC User Portal username (included in your original welcome email message from TACC), and then click Submit.

If you've forgotten your TACC User Portal password:

    • On the TACC User Portal home page, click Forgot Password. Then, under "Username" enter your TACC User Portal username (included in your original welcome email message from TACC), and then click Submit.

Note: This username in this step is not the same as your XSEDE username. If you've forgotten your TACC username, see ARCHIVED: How can I find the username for my account on an XSEDE digital resource at TACC?

  2. In email, you'll receive a "TACC Account Password Reset" message. Click the provided link to proceed.
  3. On the "Password Reset" page that opens, under "Username", enter your TACC User Portal username.
  4. In the text boxes provided, create and confirm a new password.

Note: Your password must be at least eight characters long and cannot contain three or more sequential characters of either your TACC User Portal username or full name. Also, it must contain characters from at least three of the following categories:

    • Uppercase letters
    • Lowercase letters
    • Numbers
    • Symbols
  5. To complete the process, click Submit. This will reset your TACC password on all TACC digital services on which you have an account.
