Safely share your personal device's administrator password with a vendor

If you need to share the administrator account password for your personal device (for example, PC or phone) with a vendor (for repairs, for example), be sure to follow these University Information Policy Office guidelines:

  • Remove institutional data from the device by copying to an appropriate storage location.
  • Change the administrative password to something other than the original or any IU credential.
  • Clear your browser's cache and empty the trash/Recycle bin.
  • After the necessary service has been performed, reset the administrative password.
  • Copy the institutional data back to the workstation, and reinstall or reconfigure your email client and any other profiles or data.
