At IU, how can I access my Exchange account on my iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad?

Important:
The Microsoft Outlook mobile app does not currently meet IU security standards, and is therefore blocked from the Exchange servers at IU. See Why doesn't the Microsoft Outlook mobile app work with IU Exchange accounts?

By connecting your iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) to your Indiana University Exchange account via Exchange ActiveSync, you can synchronize your email, contacts, and calendars over both Wi-Fi and cellular networks. Additionally, you can manage some aspects of your device through Outlook Web App, including wiping the device if it's lost or stolen; see In Outlook Web App, how can I manage my Exchange ActiveSync device?

To set up your account, you should have a reliable Wi-Fi Internet connection. When you finish entering your mail settings, your device will check them by connecting to your account. For more on making a Wi-Fi connection, see IU Secure wireless connections: iOS (iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad) .

Note:
Students who are admitted but not yet enrolled can only open web pages on the IU Secure network. Other Internet services, e.g., email or chat clients, gaming services, etc., will not work until you have enrolled status.
Note:
Before storing personal information in your iOS device, the University Information Security Office strongly recommends configuring a passcode. See How can I secure my iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch?
  1. From the "Home" screen:
    • iOS 11: Choose Settings > Accounts & Passwords.
    • iOS 10: Choose Settings > Mail.
    • Earlier versions: Choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  2. In iOS 11, select Add Account. In earlier versions of iOS, select Accounts and then Add Account. On the "Add Account" screen, select Exchange or Microsoft Exchange.
  3. On the Exchange setup screen, enter the following:

Tap Next. If you're asked to sign into your account using Microsoft, tap Sign In. Your device will attempt to verify your settings. Enter your IU passphrase in the "Password:" field. In some cases, it may not be able to auto-detect your settings. In that case, it will present another screen. Fill in the following two fields:

    • Server: eas.exchange.iu.edu
    • Username: ADS\username, using your IU username

    Then tap Next.

  4. Once your device has verified your Exchange account settings, you will see options to turn on or off synchronization for Mail, Contacts, and Calendars. These settings will be turned on by default.
  5. Tap the Save or Done button. This will take you back to the Mail setup screen.

Your device should begin syncing with your Exchange account immediately.

Note:
If you are having trouble sending and receiving mail on your iOS device, you may want to remove the email account and then re-add it. Check your device instructions for assistance.
Note:
IU allows Exchange partnerships with up to 10 mobile devices. If you experience issues setting up an Exchange account on your mobile device, you may want to verify how many devices you have partnered with Exchange; see In Outlook Web App, how can I manage my Exchange ActiveSync device?
