Description: The goal of this ongoing project group is to enhance students' educational experience by increasing their awareness and usage of valuable information technology tools, resources, services, and support available to them from UITS.

The group is composed of members from across UITS, working collaboratively to communicate the important impact of information technology at Indiana University.

Milestones and status:

  • May 2008: USPS mailing of the 2008 Technology Purchasing Guidelines and welcome letter from information technology deans for the IUB and IUPUI campuses to approximately 11,000 incoming freshmen
  • July-August 2008: New Student Orientation Resource fairs on the IUB and IUPUI campuses. Distributed collateral support materials including the IUware CD and booklet, security information, etc. about UITS. Distributed the Orientation Hot Topics update
  • August 17-18 (IUPUI) and August 27 (IUB), 2008: Move-in days for IUB and IUPUI students in campus housing. Staffed tables with volunteers and UITS consultants to assist students with information technology in campus housing and to inform about services and support more broadly; distributed the Get Connected Booklet and Fall IT Update
  • August 2008: Graduate Student Orientation (Bloomington campus fair conducted by Graduate and Professional Student Organization)
  • August 11, 2008: International Student Fair on the IUPUI campus
  • August 21, 2008: Participated in the Resident Assistant Fair on the Bloomington campus to distribute information technology poster kits for residence hall bulletin boards
  • August 2008: Student Technology Center/Residential Technology Center poster project: Posted a series of thematic posters in STCs/RTCs highlighting current initiatives, support, etc. from UITS
  • May 2009: Sent approximately 12,000 UITS mailings to the homes of incoming new IUB and IUPUI students, including the Technology Purchasing Guide handout. The mailing introduces new students to the IU IT environment.
  • May 2009: Completed nu2it.iu.edu design update, with fresh visual interface for the main SAG hub for UITS awareness. The new design is used online, as well as on the interface for the new flash drive
  • June 2009: Began wide distribution of the NU2IT@IU flash drive to new students at IUB and IUPUI. The 1 GB drive features NU2IT artwork and customized interface, orientation video, and software
  • Mid-June-early August 2009: IUB Resource Center/IUPUI Resource Fair staffing, greeting new students, and discussing the IT environment that they are entering. SAG and vendor reps handed out fliers and helpful information. UITS orientation video shown to new students, and flash drives distributed
  • August 20, 2009: Staffed the IUB RA/International Student resource fair to publicize UITS among campus housing staff
  • August 24, 2009: Coordinated and staffed the IUPUI Move-in day, with giveaways, signage, and publications, greeting arriving campus housing residents
  • August 25, 2009: SAG began first online advertising effort, with a banner ad at idsnews.com
  • August 26, 2009: SAG coordinated and staffed the IU Bloomington Move-in day, with giveaways, signage, and publications, greeting arriving campus housing residents in 11 residence halls across campus
  • August 30, 2009: SAG efforts won 3 SIGUCCS Awards of Excellence in Category for General Service Campaign Materials (NU2IT@IU New Student Orientation campaign), Long Promotional Video/Audio (Orientation video), and Software Distribution, Physical Media (NU2IT@IUflash drive)

Benefits: Anticipated benefits include increased awareness and usage of UITS and related information, technology services, tools, resources, and support.
