At IU, if I locate unsecured files with sensitive data, what should I do?

If you locate unsecured files with possibly sensitive data, using Identity Finder or otherwise, avoid opening these files. Instead, send the names of the resulting files to the owner of the account or system where the files are stored, directing the owner to review the files and take appropriate action.

If you find sensitive data on a public workstation or website, regard it as a security incident. File a report as per the directions on the University Information Policy Office (UIPO) Report an Incident page.
