ARCHIVED: How do I fix audio issues in Adobe Captivate 4?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

In Adobe Captivate 4, you may experience problems recording, editing, and importing audio. Issues may include:

  • Seeing the message "Error while copying audio stream"
  • Captivate 4 not recognizing your microphone, and not playing back audio properly
  • Nothing happening when you attempt to edit audio
  • Inability to import audio files

These are known issues; Captivate version 4.0.1 fixes them. To update Captivate, you need to be logged in as an administrator.

Note:
Security of Information Technology Resources (IT-12) requires that you normally refrain from running your Windows computer as an administrator. For more, see About the principle of least privilege.

To update your software:

  1. In Captivate, from the menu bar, click Help, and then click Updates. The updater will run.
  2. Close Captivate, and then click Download and Install Updates.

Note: After updating, though the audio options should work, you might be unable to import some .wav files into Captivate.
