Primary UITS contact: Richard Knepper
Completed: September 13, 2010
Description: In partnership with Microsoft, IU is benchmarking its IBM iDataPlex cluster to determine the capabilities of Microsoft's High Performance Computing Server product. Analyses are carried out with standard high-performance computing codes such as HPCC and MILC, as well as tests of virtualization systems, and compared to the same analyses running on Linux on the same hardware.
Milestones and status:
- February 2010: Analyses have been completed on both operating systems and virtualization testing is being conducted.
- April 2010: All Microsoft HPC Server Analyses complete and benchmarking paper is in preparation.
- June 2010: Benchmarking paper was accepted by SPEC Benchmarking workshop, and was presented October 8, 2010. Presentation information can be viewed at http://www.spec.org/workshops/2010/paderborn/slides/PerformanceComparisonUsingHPCBenchmarks.pdf
