Windows

To map a network drive at IU Northwest in Windows:

  1. In Windows 8.x, press Win-e. In the resulting window's left column, right-click Computer or This PC.

    In Windows 7 and Vista, from the Start menu, right-click Computer.

  2. Click Map Network Drive.... In the "Drive:" field, select a letter to assign to the drive. UITS recommends using S: for departments and H: for home.
  3. To connect to the drive every time you start your computer, select Reconnect at logon.
  4. In the "Folder:" field, enter the path name of the network drive:
    • For a departmental folder, enter \\nw-it-data.ads.iu.edu\data.
    • For your home folder, enter \\nw-it-data.ads.iu.edu\home$\username, replacing username with your IU Network ID username.

    If you do not know the name of your departmental folder, contact your department secretary.

  5. In Windows, check Connect using different credentials, and then click Finish.

    In Vista, under the "Folder:" field, click different user name.

  6. In the window that appears, in the "User name:" field, enter ads\username, replacing username with your Network ID username. In the "Password:" field, enter your Network ID passphrase.
  7. Click OK. In Vista, click Finish.

macOS

  1. Open the Finder.
  2. In the toolbar at the top of the screen, click Go.
  3. Select Connect to Server.
  4. In the "Connect to Server" window, enter the path name of the network drive under "Server Address":
    • For a departmental folder, enter smb://nw-it-data.ads.iu.edu/.
    • For your home folder, enter smb://nw-it-data.ads.iu.edu/home$/username, replacing username with your IU username.
  5. In the window that appears, in the "User name:" field, enter ads\username, replacing username with your username. In the "Password:" field, enter your IU passphrase.
    • For your home drive, your username will appear on the right.
    • For a departmental drive, navigate to the DATA folder and then to your department's folder.
