At IUN, how do I map a network drive in Windows?

Note: If you are off campus, you will need to establish a VPN connection before connecting to a network drive; see The basics of VPN at IU.

To map a network drive at Indiana University Northwest in Windows 7 or Vista:

  1. In Windows 7 and Vista, from the Start menu, open Computer.
  2. Click Map Network Drive.... In the "Drive:" field, select a letter to assign to the drive. UITS recommends using S: for departments and H: for home.
  3. To connect to the drive every time you start your computer, select Reconnect at logon.
  4. In the "Folder:" field, enter the path name of the network drive:
    • For a departmental folder, enter \\nw-it-fs15.ads.iu.edu\data.
    • For your home folder, enter \\nw-it-fs15.ads.iu.edu\username, replacing username with your IU Network ID username.

Note: If you do not know the name of your departmental folder, contact your department secretary.

  5. In Windows 7, check Connect using different credentials, and then click Finish.

In Vista, under the "Folder:" field, click different user name.

  6. In the window that appears, in the "User name:" field, enter ads\username, replacing username with your Network ID username. In the "Password:" field, enter your Network ID passphrase.
  7. Click OK. In Vista, click Finish.
