ARCHIVED: In Outlook 2007 or 2003, how do I enable encryption?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

Exchange Server 2010 encrypts communication between the client and server by default. Prior to Outlook 2007, encryption was not enabled by default on the client side. If profiles for Outlook 2007 exist where encryption is disabled, or if Outlook 2003 profiles created with default settings are used with Exchange Server 2010, the connection will fail when Outlook attempts to connect to an Exchange Server 2010 mailbox.
