Description: Action 65 (Learning Spaces Innovation) of Empowering People, Indiana University's Strategic Plan for IT, calls for a range of teaching and learning innovations, both in and outside the traditional classroom. To that end, the Learning Technologies Division is engaged in projects to redesign Student Technology Centers (STCs) and IT-equipped informal learning spaces to ensure students continue to have access to the hardware, software, and printing capabilities they need to complete their academic work, while also providing increased access to spaces for collaborative work that make use of new furniture designs and access to rich media capabilities.

One of the redesign projects is IT 131, which serves as the only 24/7 STC on the IUPUI campus. IT 131 re-opened for the first day of classes for fall semester 2010.

Enhancements to the STC include:

  • A new, open design with increased group collaboration spaces
  • The addition of individual seating spaces for mobile technology users
  • The creation of three new group study and presentation practice rooms
  • Access to 64 total Windows and Mac workstations
  • Access to color and black-and-white printers
  • Availability of multimedia capture devices and flatbed scanners
  • New ergonomic chairs

Milestones and status:
