At IU, in Mac OS X, how do I configure Outlook to access my Exchange account?

To configure Outlook 2016 or 2011 to access your Exchange account:

  1. On the welcome screen that appears when you start Outlook for the first time, select Add Account. The "Accounts" preference window will open; if neither it nor the welcome screen appears, from the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  2. In the bottom left of the "Accounts" preference window, click the + (plus sign) button, and then select Exchange....
  3. In the Exchange account information sheet, enter the following information, making sure Configure automatically is selected:
    • E-mail address: Your Exchange account email address, e.g., dvader@iupui.edu
    • Method: From the pull-down menu, select User Name and Password.
    • User name: ADS\username, replacing username with your IU username.
    • Password: Your IU passphrase
  4. Click the Add Account button.

    If the account does not configure automatically, you will be asked for server information:

    • Server: https://ews.exchange.iu.edu/ews/exchange.asmx

    You should now see your account listed in the left column of the "Accounts" window. Your account will begin to sync with Exchange; allow it to finish. (During the initial sync, Outlook may appear to be unresponsive and the cursor will appear as a spinning beach ball.)

  5. After the initial sync is complete, with the "Accounts" window still open and your new Exchange account selected, click Advanced, and verify the following settings:
    • Microsoft Exchange
      • Server: https://ews.exchange.iu.edu/ews/exchange.asmx
      • Check Use SSL to connect.
    • Directory services
      • Server: Optionally, add one of the following servers to use directory services:
        • IU-MSSG-ADSDC01.ads.iu.edu
        • IU-MSSG-ADSDC02.ads.iu.edu
        • IU-MSSG-ADSDC03.ads.iu.edu
        • IU-MSSG-ADSDC04.ads.iu.edu
        • IU-MSSG-ADSDC05.ads.iu.edu
        • IU-MSSG-ADSDC06.ads.iu.edu
        • IU-MSSG-ADSDC07.ads.iu.edu
        • IU-MSSG-ADSDC08.ads.iu.edu
      • Check Use SSL to connect.
  6. Adjust settings in the Delegates and Security tabs as needed. Consult your IT support personnel regarding these settings.
  7. Click OK to exit the advanced settings.
  8. Click the Show All button to reveal the other Outlook settings, and then click Calendar. Next to "Default time zone for new events:", make sure it is set to the correct time zone. Especially if you have an Indiana city set for your Mac's system-wide time zone setting, make sure it is not set to Indiana (East), but instead to Eastern Time (US & Canada).
  9. Close the preferences window to begin using Outlook.
Note:
The initial connection to Exchange will sync account content to your computer. This can take an hour or more for accounts with a large amount of data.
