Get the Home edition of ZoomText

Set up your Home Use account
- Go to the Freedom Scientific higher education page.
- In the "College Email Address" text box, type your IU username followed by
@iu.edu
(do this no matter what your email address is). PressEnter
. - The page will refresh and will display congratulation text below where you put in your email. Select .
- On the registration page, fill in the following required fields:
- Confirm email
- First Name
- Last Name
- Country
- Postal Code
- Password: Your password must be eight characters or longer, with at least one letter and one number.
- Confirm password
- Click . The page will reload and become a registration confirmation. Close your browser.
- Go to your IU email account, and look for an email message from Freedom Scientific SW Licensing with a subject line of "Confirm your Freedom Scientific portal account". In the message, select the link.
- A web browser will load and thank you for confirming your email. Close the browser.
Your Home Use account is now registered, and you can now download and activate the Home Use version of ZoomText.
Download and install ZoomText Home Edition
- Go to Freedom Scientific's sign-in page.
- Type your IU email address and the password you just created, and select .
- You will now be on the "My Products" page. Click .
- Select the link.
- The page will change to "Product details", listing the product name, when it will expire, the serial number, and a text field in which to enter notes.
- If you want to associate a note with the installation, type it into the "Notes" field, and then select .
- Click .
- A "File Download" notification pop-up will appear asking to download the software onto your computer. Click .
- The "Opening [Your name]ZoomTextLicenseActivator.exe" window will appear. Select the button.
- Once the download is complete, press
Ctrl-j
to bring up the downloads window for your web browser. - Locate the
[Your name]ZoomTextLicenseActivator.exe
file and double-click it to launch the installer. - The "Setup ZoomText for [Your Name]" window will appear, saying "ZoomText is not installed on this computer. Do you want to install and then activate for use?" Select .
- User Account Control will ask if you want to install Freedom Scientific ZoomText 2019. Select .
- The ZoomText install window will appear. Check the box to accept the license agreement, and then click .
- The installer will run on your computer; this could take a couple minutes. When the install finishes, the install window will say "ZoomText Install and Activation have completed successfully." Click .
- The ZoomText setup information window will ask to restart your computer. Click .
Your computer will restart, after which the download and installation of ZoomText will be complete.
Set up ZoomText
- Log back into your computer.
- When you get to the desktop, ZoomText will launch automatically. Once ZoomText loads, you'll be greeted by a "Welcome to ZoomText 2019" message with a link to the Getting Started Guide, as well as a listing of the common keyboard commands. Close the welcome window, and the Startup wizard will appear.
- On the first screen of the Startup wizard, set your options for language, synthesizer, and voice.
- Once you have selected a value for each setting, select .
- On the second screen, choose how you want to start and run ZoomText. You can choose to enable either or both of the following:

. - The third screen will ask if you want to help solve problems that may occur by letting ZoomText send error reports. If so, check the box for .
- Click .
Your Home Use copy of ZoomText is now set up and running on your computer.
