In Microsoft Skype for Business/Lync, what are privacy relationships?

Use Microsoft Skype for Business/Lync to access Indiana University's UniCom service.

In Skype for Business/Lync, you control what information your contacts can see about you by setting their relationship to you. The table below indicates what contacts at each level can see. For Indiana University's Skype for Business/Lync system, Colleagues is the default level for IU-affiliated contacts.

To change a contact's privacy relationship, right-click the person's name in your contact list, move your mouse to Change Privacy Relationship, and select from the five available levels.

*At IU, work numbers are typically furnished automatically by the Active Directory, but may not be available for all faculty and staff (for instance, those who have opted to have their information not appear in the IU Directory). You must enter and publish home, mobile, and other numbers if you want the specified contacts to see them; see Manage your phone numbers in Skype for Business for Windows.

People assigned to the Workgroup level can interrupt you when your status is Do Not Disturb; they will see your status listed as "Urgent interruptions only".

To learn how to perform common tasks in the Skype for Business/Lync client, see the UniCom page. Also, see Microsoft's Skype for Business help pages or the Lync for Mac user guide.
