About Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (DPS) at IU

Note:
This document refers to Adobe Creative Suite software, available through IUware under IU's contract with Adobe. Adobe Creative Cloud software is distributed in a different manner. For details about Creative Cloud at IU, see Adobe Creative Cloud at IU.

Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (DPS) is a set of tools in InDesign CS5.5 and later that allows for the creation of digital publications with interactive content for distribution on the iPad, Android, and BlackBerry tablet devices. You can use DPS for publications intended for broad or limited distribution.

  • Creative Suite 6: After you install CS6, you should see an icon to install software updates ( The Adobe icon, indicating updates, may appear in the lower right or the upper right of your screen. ). Click this icon, and you should have the option of installing the DPS tool set.
  • Creative Suite 5.5: At Indiana University, in addition to InDesign CS5.5, you will need to download and install the DPS Folio Builder and Producer tools from IUware. On the left, click Design and Production, and then select Digital Publishing Suite.

If you wish to create publications and distribute them less formally to smaller, targeted groups, you can use the free Adobe Content Viewer available through iTunes, Google Play, and the BlackBerry PlayBook App World. These publications require the creation of a free Acrobat.com account for online storage and distribution.

IU's Enterprise License Agreement with Adobe also includes the DPS Enterprise Edition for content distribution through IU's branded IU Bookshelf tablet application. For information on the creation and distribution of digital publications through IU Bookshelf, see the IU Bookshelf Overview.
