This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.
Important:
Indiana University Collaboration Technologies is no longer provisioning new Cisco Jabber Video accounts for IU users because this service is approaching end of life with its vendor, Cisco.

Configuration

When you start Jabber Video for the first time, you will need to configure the software.

  1. Click Advanced.
  2. In the dialog box, in the "Internal", "External", and "SIP Domain" fields, type vc.iu.edu, and then click OK.

You only need to do this the first time you use Jabber Video.

  3. Type the unique Jabber Video username and password that you received in your Jabber Video account confirmation email message, and then click Sign In.
  4. After you have signed in, disable automatic startup in Jabber Video:
    • Windows: Click the Tools icon in the upper right of the dial window. Select Sign-in, make sure Start Jabber Video when I log on to my computer is not checked, and then click OK.
    • Mac: From the main Jabber Video menu, select Preferences.... Click Sign-In, and make sure Start Jabber Video when I log on to my computer is not checked.

Using Jabber Video

Once you have configured Jabber Video, you can use it to make a call. Type a conference number in the "Type Name Number or Address" field, and then press the Enter key.

The My contacts and Recent calls menus allow you to recall and store frequently dialed numbers.

The following controls access features that you can use in your Jabber Video conference:

Jabber Video toolbar

While in a call, hover your cursor over the Jabber Video video window to make the Jabber Video toolbar appear. From left to right, there are seven buttons:

  • Self View: See your own webcam image
  • Camera: Turn your webcam on or off (pause or unpause camera)
  • Microphone: Turn your microphone on or off
  • Speaker: Control conference volume
  • Full Screen: Make the Jabber Video video window full-screen. You can also toggle this setting by double-clicking the video window.
  • Presentation: Select an active application window to show to the conference
  • Hang Up: Disconnect from the call

The Presentation button

When you click the Presentation button, a dialog box appears with a list of available application windows to share. Click a selection to share with the conference. To stop sharing, click the Presentation button again, and then click Stop sharing presentation. Your cursor is not visible to others when sharing an application window.

In Windows, if you start a full-screen view of a PPT slideshow or an application window, a dialog box prompts you, asking if you want to share that window. When you exit full-screen view, Jabber Video automatically stops sharing.

If you are sharing your entire screen, Cisco recommends minimizing the Jabber Video windows, such as the video window.

Note:
The Mac Jabber Video client does not allow you to share the entire screen and desktop.

If bandwidth or system resources are limited, turning off your camera during a presentation will improve presentation quality.

Conference layout and far-end camera control

The camera control icon is a compass, or four arrows (up/down/left/right), in the upper right of the video window. Click the camera control icon to display the large control wheel.

If you are in a multiple-site conference call on the video bridge, click the up or down arrows to change the conference layout, or the left or right arrows to rotate sites within the layout.

Note:
You can also change the layout by pressing 2 on your keyboard, and rotate images within the layout by pressing 6.

If you are in a direct call with a single conference room system that uses a pan-tilt-zoom camera, click the directional arrows to steer the remote camera, or the + or - keys to zoom.

Click the camera control icon to close the control wheel.
