ARCHIVED: View your calendar and voice mail on your Polycom CX600 phone

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.
Note:
At this time, there isn't a way to access your voice mail from a physical phone in Exchange Online, but you can access your voice mail via Microsoft Teams at IU.

The Polycom CX600 device running Lync Phone Edition has features that let you view your calendar appointments and voice mail messages using the screen on the phone. This information is pulled directly from your Exchange mailbox. To activate these features, you must:

  • Have an Exchange email account
  • Be running Skype for Business on a Windows computer
  • Have a USB cable to connect the CX600 phone to the Windows computer running Skype for Business

Even when the requirements are met, there is a known issue that occurs where the phone is unable to retrieve calendar and voice mail information from the Exchange server. When this happens, a triangle-shaped, yellow warning icon appears at the bottom center of the phone's display. To correct this issue:

  1. On the phone, press the Menu button (the center button under the screen), select Switch User, and then press the button to answer Yes.
    Note:
See below for a diagram of the phone.
  2. After you have signed out of the phone, power it down, either by unplugging the network cable from the phone or disconnecting the power cable.
  3. Unplug the USB cable from the phone.
  4. Reboot your computer.
  5. Log back onto your Windows computer, but do not start Microsoft Outlook.
  6. Start Skype for Business.
  7. Power up the phone.
  8. Once booted up, the phone will display this question: "Do you have a computer available to simplify setup and enable all features on this phone?" Press the button to answer Yes.
  9. Connect the USB cable to your phone.
  10. On your computer, a window associated with Skype for Business should appear, indicating that login information is needed. Enter the following:
    • For "Sign-in address", type your sign-in address, which is usually the same as your email address; see ARCHIVED: UniCom sign-in address.
    • For "User name", type ads\username, replacing username with your Indiana University username.
    • For "Password", type your IU passphrase.
  11. Click OK.
  12. On your phone, the sign-in process should proceed. Once it completes, you will be prompted to enter a phone-unlock PIN. Enter a 6-digit PIN of your choice, and then press Next. Re-enter the PIN, and press Done.
  13. Press Next to confirm the rest of your phone preferences (time zone, date/time formats, and ring tone).
  14. Press Done.
  15. At this point, you can start Outlook.
  16. Allow up to 5 minutes for the calendar appointments and voice mail items to appear on the phone.
