ARCHIVED: Change the default privacy relationships in Skype for Business/Lync

At Indiana University, by default, everyone in the Global Address List (GAL) and all federated contacts are given a privacy relationship of Colleagues to you. In Skype for Business/Lync, the Colleagues relationship shares your presence information along with your contact information, except for Home, Mobile Phone, and Meeting details. See ARCHIVED: Privacy relationships in Microsoft Skype for Business.

If you want to block this information by default for all people in the GAL and federated contacts, you must change the default privacy relationship, as described below.

Note:
You cannot do this in Lync for Mac; however, you can access the Windows Lync client using IUanyWare, and follow the instructions below. The changes you make will then apply in your Lync for Mac client as well.
  1. In the Windows Skype for Business/Lync client, in the tab bar, click the down arrow to see the View more layout options drop-down menu.
  2. Check Manage Privacy Relationships.
  3. You will see a new contact in your "External Contacts" group, called People in domains connected with my company. Right-click it to choose a different default privacy setting for people in the GAL. To see the different privacy levels described, see ARCHIVED: Privacy relationships in Microsoft Skype for Business.
