Determine if a message you sent was CSEES-encrypted
To determine whether a specific message you sent was encrypted by the Cisco Secure Email Encryption Service (CSEES):
- If you included
[Secure Message]
(case insensitive, with square brackets) in the subject line, the message was encrypted; see Ensure that mail sent from your Exchange account to an outside address is encrypted by CSEES.Note:If you included[Secure Message]
(case insensitive, with square brackets) in the subject line of messages that were only sent between IU Exchange email accounts, this will not go through the CSEES system because it is considered secure (see Sensitive data sent within Indiana University). However, you should still tag all messages containing sensitive data to force encryption should the recipient forward messages outside the IU Exchange servers. - If you received a Message Encryption Notification, your message was encrypted.
- If you received a read receipt message, the message was encrypted and was decrypted by the recipient.
To determine if other messages were encrypted, you will need to look for them on Cisco's Secure Email Encryption Service site. To do this, you must first register your Indiana University email address with CSEES; once your address is registered, you can then view all encrypted sent messages, even ones sent before registration.
Register your IU email address
See Register your IU Exchange email account with CSEES.
