Note:
To complete these procedures, you must be assigned a role having the necessary permissions. If you're not sure what your role is, see the "Role" column in the Roster tool. For permissions, see ARCHIVED: What can I do in read-only Oncourse?

Note: Resources and multimedia are similar, in that both can be either files or URLs. The difference is that resources appear as links in your Lessons page, whereas multimedia is generally displayed in a box on the page, if the student's browser is able to do so. See ARCHIVED: Adding multimedia content to a page in Lessons (beta).

On this page:

Adding a resource

  1. Click Add Resource at the top of the page.
  2. Choose a resource to add to your page; you can add any of the following:
  • A file from your computer: Click Browse... or Choose file, and locate the file on your computer. Click Save. The file will be added to your page and stored in the Resources tool in a folder with the same title as your Lessons page or subpage.
  • A web link: Supply the web address of a file or web page in the "URL" text box. Click Save. The link will be added to your page and stored in the Resources tool in a folder with the same title as your Lessons page or subpage.
  • A file in Resources: Click Choose Existing File to select a file that has already been uploaded to Resources. Click Select to choose the file. Then click Continue.

Deleting a resource

Click Edit to the left of the resource you would like to remove, and then click Delete.

The delete function in Lessons (beta) only removes the link on the Lessons page. To completely delete an uploaded file from your site, you need to also remove it from the Resources tool. For instructions, see ARCHIVED: Deleting a Resources item.

Access controls for resources

When you select Don't Release Item Until All Prerequisites are Completed, Lessons (beta) will control students' access to the resource. The resource is hidden so that it can only be accessed through Lessons (beta). If the resource involved is a web document (HTML), there are special considerations. Web documents often include images, and they can refer to other documents; thus controlling the document itself may not be good enough.

One possible solution is to put the images somewhere else in the same folder as the main document, and set either the individual files or the folder to "hidden" in the Resources tool. When you access a file in Lessons (beta), if the file is accessible, it will also allow you to access other files in the same folder, even if they are hidden.
