Top 10 technology tips for IU students

If you're a new IU student, first see If you're new to technology at IU.

Following are the top 10 technology tips for Indiana University students, as recommended by UITS:

  1. Get a Box account: IU's Box service gives you unlimited storage and collaboration space in the cloud. Access it online, in the Student Technology Centers (STCs), on IUanyWare thin clients, from your mobile device, and through software in IUanyWare. Use it for personal file storage or for collaboration on team projects. To get started, log in at with your IU username and passphrase. Learn more at About Box at IU.
  2. Authorize cloud storage: Connect your Box account to computers in the STCs, IUanyWare thin clients, and IUanyWare for your personal computer or mobile device. Log in with your IU username and passphrase at, and then choose Authorize Cloud Storage under the Box description.
  3. Use IUanyWare: Use IUanyWare to stream your favorite software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud, to your desktop, laptop, smartphone, or tablet. On your computer, go to To configure your mobile device, see Set up and use IUanyWare.
  4. Download software from IUware: Hundreds of software titles, including Microsoft Office 365 and the Adobe Creative Cloud for Mac and for Windows, are available to download while you're a student. Go to and choose Start Downloading >.
  5. Improve your computing knowledge and skills: Now that you have the software, learn how to make the most of it. Online courses, webinars, special events, and discounted training from leading vendors are available. Learn more at
  6. Meet online with Zoom: Use Zoom for meetings, where you can share presentations, images, and desktop applications with participants. For more, see About Zoom at IU.
  7. Get IT support when you need it: The UITS Support Center provides live chat, phone, email, and face-to-face IT support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Chat online with a consultant at, or call your campus Support Center. Also, Technology Center Consulting provides 24/7 support for students in the Learning Commons at IU Bloomington and 24/5 support (with limited staffing on weekends) in IT 131 at IUPUI.
  8. Contact AskIU for general IU information: Contact AskIU whenever you need directions to campus locations, information about a sporting or artistic event, or an answer to a general question about any IU campus. Contact AskIU via email or UniCom/Skype for Business/Lync instant messaging, or call 812-855-IUIU (4848).
  9. Use One.IU: Use to easily complete tasks such as finding a class, checking your grades, or paying a bill. Search by name or category, or click a title, or use a search engine such as Google rather than starting from the One.IU interface. Once you find what you want, you can authenticate and finish your task.
