About UITS SMART Administration Services

Implemented within the framework of Indiana University's Intelligent Infrastructure (II), UITS SMART Administration Services is a comprehensive virtualized systems hosting, administration, and support solution designed to simplify the day-to-day operations of departmental IT Professionals.

SMART Services options

Along with essential server management services, SMART Services offers two base levels of operating system administration support that can be customized with your choice of add-on services. All levels of service include 24/7 system outage support and business hours for general support requests.

Basic Support

Basic Support provides all operating system services (patching, upgrades, and security). Your IT Professional manages any issues or configurations not associated with the operating system, or underlying hardware or infrastructure.

Standard Support

Standard Support expands Basic Support services (patching, upgrades, and security) to include Active Directory group, organizational unit, and group policy object administration, and file share permission management.

Add-on services

  • Database hosting/administration
    • Paired with Basic Support only
    • UITS database administration expertise for hosting, managing, and maintaining your Oracle, MySQL, or MS SQL databases
  • Third-party application hosting/administration and vendor management
    • Paired with Standard Support only
    • UITS systems administration expertise for hosting, managing, and maintaining your third-party applications
    • UITS-coordinated communication, troubleshooting, and vendor management for any issues with the operating system or application
  • University IT Policy and security alignment reporting (in development)
    • Paired with either Basic or Standard support level
    • Provides access to a system resource dashboard
    • Includes reports on patching, backups, security incidents, vulnerabilities, malware, and other IU IT security policy (IT-12) procedures
  • Performance monitoring and reporting
    • Paired with either Basic or Standard support level
    • Provides access to a system resource dashboard, and dashboards for monitoring CPU, memory, disk, and uptime information
