ARCHIVED: At IU, how do I make a telnet connection to the Shakespeare or Jewel systems so that I can use Pine to read and send email?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

Note: UITS is replacing the Shakespeare and Jewel systems with a new email environment called Cyrus mail. For information about the new system, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: What is Cyrus mail? On the new system, you can access your mail via IU Webmail or a desktop client, but not via Pine. For more information about your email options, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: If I used Pine on the Shakespeare or Jewel systems, what do I need to know about the recent email upgrade?

All Indiana University Bloomington students, faculty, and staff are entitled to an email account on the Shakespeare systems, and all IUPUI students, faculty, and staff are entitled to an email account on the Jewel systems. Pine is a program that allows you access to your Shakespeare or Jewel systems email account from any computer that has a telnet program. Follow the instructions below to connect via Pine to the Shakespeare or Jewel systems.
