Project: Testing Center Scheduler

Primary UITS contact: Kevin Brokamp

Last update: May 16, 2016

Description: Acquire an electronic scheduling system that meets the needs of the IUPUI Testing Center. The system will allow students to schedule seats within the Testing Center to complete online quizzes and exams. The system will also allow for administrative reporting on lab usage.

Outcome: Provide the Testing Center with the ability to forecast needs based on registrations and schedule seats in the Testing Center labs for students taking proctored assessments.

Milestones and status:

  • June 2014: Vendor selection and UISO Security Review
  • June 2015: UITS has chosen vendor Periodic Inc. to develop and customize their on-demand booking engine for this project.
  • Fall 2015: The project is slated to be in pilot stage by the fall 2015 semester. If successful, the license agreement with Periodic allows for other units to create their own custom booking sites for general purpose scheduling.
  • January 2016: This project is in pilot in the SL070 Testing Center. We are working in collaboration with the software developers, Testing Center staff, and students and faculty who use the Testing Center to deliver an end product that best meets the needs of all its users.
  • May 2016: The scheduler was used in full production mode during the spring 2016 semester and during spring finals. There are still a number of enhancements being worked on to better suit the needs of faculty and students using the scheduler, but it is currently working well to reduce traffic and wait times at the SL070 Testing Facility.

Benefits: Provide greater utilization and throughput in the Testing Center labs.
