ARCHIVED: In Oncourse, what is the Canvas Redirector tool and how do I use it?
The Canvas Redirector tool is a utility designed to help with the transition from Oncourse to Canvas. This tool, which is only visible to users in the instructor and assistant roles, appears on the home page of all official course sites. When the tool is enabled, it redirects all site visitors to the corresponding site in Canvas.
Turning on the Canvas Redirector
To enable the Canvas Redirector tool:
- Log into Oncourse and navigate to the course section that you plan to teach in Canvas.
Note: If you teach more than one section of the same course and plan to cross-list (combine) these sections in Canvas, do not combine the sections in Oncourse, because the Redirector tool does not work in combined sites. - Once you've clicked the button, most of the tools in the Oncourse site menubar will be removed, and you will be redirected to to the corresponding site in Canvas within approximately 20 seconds. Thereafter, all visitors to your Oncourse site will be redirected to Canvas.
Turning off the Canvas Redirector
Once you have enabled the Canvas Redirector tool, you can turn it off at any time. To do so, navigate to your course site in Oncourse, and then click
.Note: If you turn off the Canvas Redirector tool, any manual changes you previously made to your course site's Oncourse tools will not be preserved.
