Provide students extended time for testing in Canvas Quizzes

On this page:

Overview

A frequent accommodation for students with disabilities is to provide extended time on quizzes and exams. If your Canvas quiz has a time limit, follow the steps below for moderating a Canvas Quiz to configure the required extra time for a student to complete an assessment.

Configure extended time

Note:
A quiz must be published before you can configure it to allow extended time.

To configure extended time in a Canvas quiz:

  1. Open the quiz in the Canvas Quizzes tool.
  2. Under the "Related Items" sidebar, click Moderate this quiz.
  3. Click the Edit icon (pencil) to the far right of the student's name.
  4. In the "Student Extensions" dialog, enter the extra time in minutes that you want your student to have for each attempt. For example, if the quiz has a 30-minute time limit and the student gets 50% extra time, enter 15 minutes.
  5. Click Save.
