ARCHIVED: Enabling Echo360 in Canvas

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.
Note:
ARCHIVED: Echo360, Indiana University's lecture capture and personal capture tool, will be retired in 2017. Kaltura has been selected as Echo360's replacement. For more, see ARCHIVED: About the Echo360 retirement.

To enable Echo360 Lecture Capture or ARCHIVED: Personal Capture in your Canvas course, first fill out and submit the Request a Classroom Lecture Recording form. For more, see ARCHIVED: About Echo360 at IU (Retired)

Your request must include your Canvas section ID; to locate it:

  1. Log into Canvas and enter the course for which you want to enable Echo360.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. On the "Settings" page, select the Sections tab. If multiple sections have been cross-listed (combined), you'll see a list of sections.
  4. The section names that are displayed are SIS IDs, not Canvas internal IDs. To get the internal ID, click or hover over the hyperlink for the section. You'll see a URL like this:
      https://iu.instructure.com/courses/1353133/sections/1556569

The last part of the URL (in the example above, 1556569) is the Canvas internal ID for the section. Record the internal ID for each SIS-provisioned section in the site and include it on your recording request form.

Echo360 is hidden by default in Canvas courses.

To add a hidden tool to your course navigation menu, see How do I manage Course Navigation links?
