Note:

UITS retired the RStudio web interface on June 30, 2018. UITS recommends accessing RStudio via the menu bar in Research Desktop (RED) Beta. For more about RED Beta, including how to get access, see About Research Desktop (RED) at IU.

RStudio is an open source integrated development environment (IDE) for the R programming language. Desktop editions are available for the Windows, OS X, and Linux platforms; RStudio Server enables delivery of a web-based interface. RStudio integrates the R console with a variety of tools for writing, testing, and documenting code, including a source editor with syntax highlighting, automatic code completion, smart indentation, and direct code execution. RStudio also supports version control with Git or Subversion. For more, see the RStudio product page.

At Indiana University, UITS operates a web-accessible instance of RStudio Server on the Karst research computing cluster.

To use IU's RStudio web interface, you must have a Karst account.

IU students, faculty, staff, and sponsored affiliates can request accounts on Karst.

Once you have a Karst account, open a web browser and go to:

  https://rstudio.iu.edu

When prompted, log in with your personal or group account IU username and passphrase. Once you are logged in, you can use the RStudio IDE from your browser to access and work with your files on Karst.

For help using RStudio, see the vendor's online support documentation.

Research computing support at IU is provided by the Research Technologies division of UITS. To ask a question or get help regarding Research Technologies services, including IU's research supercomputers and research storage systems, and the scientific, statistical, and mathematical applications available on those systems, contact UITS Research Technologies.
