Note:

Due to the evolving coronavirus situation, the retirement of Webserve was delayed until April 16 to allow classes that reference sites on Webserve to continue with minimal disruption.

All remaining Webserve sites were disabled beginning April 16, along with login access to webserve.iu.edu. If you have websites that still need to be moved to IU Sitehosting, you should migrate immediately.

Webtest is a test server available to all Webserve account owners. It is intended as an environment to test and develop websites and applications prior to moving them into production on Webserve.

Service level

Since this is a test environment, any issues that occur after hours will not be addressed until the next business day.

Requirements

You must have an account on Webserve.
The account name and passphrase for Webtest will be the same for Webserve.
Ownership and contact information will be the same for both the Webserve and Webtest accounts.

Special notes

You cannot request a custom virtual host for webtest; however, yourgroupname.webtest.iu.edu already exists automatically. You can use this URL to test IU Framework sites.
No Samba service (via Siteshare) is available for publishing to Webtest.
E-commerce is unavailable.
Connections to the MySQL servers are available.
Search is blocked via a robots.txt file.
Webtest is not intended for load testing.
Access to Webtest sites from outside the IU network is restricted. To access a Webtest site from outside the IU network, you first must connect to IU's SSL VPN.

Other than as noted above, the same features and programming languages on Webserve are also available on Webtest. Future upgrades may be installed on Webtest prior to moving them into production on Webserve.
