Comet is hybrid computing cluster, featuring CPU, GPU, and large-memory nodes, operated as an Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) digital service by the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC).

Note:
  • Trial allocations are available for potential users who want to evaluate Comet before requesting Startup or Research allocations. A trial allocation provides 1,000 service units (SUs) and expires after six months. For more, see the Trial allocations section of the XSEDE Allocations Overview.
  • By July 1, 2017, the SDSC expects to have 36 additional GPU nodes in production service on Comet. The new GPU nodes are substantially faster than the existing ones, achieving more than twice the performance for some applications. Consequently, researchers wanting to use Comet's GPUs must request separate "Comet GPU" allocations (researchers with existing Comet allocations may convert some of their SUs to GPU-hours).
