ARCHIVED: Set up and administer exams using Examity's auto-proctoring service
On this page:
Overview
The auto-proctoring premium proctoring level is one of several proctoring levels available from Examity. With this service, students set up a profile in Examity, schedule their exams (or take them on demand), authenticate through an automated process, and then take the exam. Their webcam, microphone, and screen are all recorded and monitored by software during the exam. The software flags suspicious behaviors. Software monitoring tends to generate extra false positives that can easily be eliminated without burdening the instructor; after the exam session, an Examity proctor will review the software-generated flags and eliminate false positives.
IU Bloomington and IUPUI faculty will need approval to use Examity during summer 2020. For more, see ARCHIVED: Assess student learning during COVID-19: Alternate assessment, Respondus Monitor, and Examity.
Practice exams
Examity is currently offering practice exams at no charge. UITS strongly recommends that you offer your students a practice exam so that they can gain familiarity with Examity before any graded work is due.
Add Examity to a Canvas module
Examity is integrated into Canvas as an external tool. For instructions for adding Examity to a module, see How do I add an external tool as a module item? Be sure to check . You cannot add Examity to your course navigation; it can only be added to a module at this time.
Set up Examity in your course
To use Examity in Canvas, you'll first create course assessments in the Canvas Quizzes tool or a third-party testing tool, and then use Examity to schedule assessments that require proctoring.
To set up an assessment to be proctored using Examity:
- Create an assessment using one of the following methods:
- The Canvas Quizzes tool: You don't need to create all of the questions for the assessment to schedule proctoring with Examity, but you must create and save the assessment with the "Exam Name", "Due date", and open and close dates filled in.
Note:You must use classic Canvas Quizzes with Examity; the New Quizzes tool will not work.
- A third-party testing tool (such as a homework platform): Copy the link to the exam.
