Next.IU investigates the tools and approaches that extend the capabilities of Canvas and support diverse learning environments. It is also a platform for digital learning options powered by Unizin. Canvas

After conducting pilots and thorough reviews of Blackboard, Canvas, and Desire2Learn, IU selected Canvas by Instructure as its learning management system. Canvas can also be used for IU Online course development.

Kaltura

Kaltura SaaS Edition is a cloud-based video management system that can be used for storing, publishing, and streaming videos, video collections, and other types of media. The system works with Canvas, and accounts are available to IU students, faculty, and staff.

Piazza

Designed to fuel collaborative discussions, Piazza allows students to ask, answer, and explore questions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, under the guidance of their instructors.

VoiceThread

VoiceThread enhances student engagement and online presence by helping instructors create a more visual and auditory discussion environment. With VoiceThread, instructors and/or students can create, share, and comment on images, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, videos, audio files, documents, and PDFs, using microphone, webcam, text, phone, and audio-file upload. VoiceThread integrates into Canvas using the Learning Tool Interoperability (LTI) standard.
